Not sure who made this large nude lady centrepiece but possibly Czech.
She sits on her own base.
Very surprised to find she was made of uranium glass.
Height 10"
Weight 950gm

any pics under UV? I love the faceted base.

Thanks Julie
I did take a couple of pictures but forgot to change settings so far to large . Will take some more this evening and add to the post.
I have just cropped down one picture which I will add.

A better UV picture

I find it so surprising to see such a brown colour producing that sort of UV reaction. So interesting.
-
it's not something to do with Cambridge Glass is it?
(caveat - I know nothing about these things, but for some reason that leapt into my mind)
-
Thanks Julie
When I bought it I did not think for one moment it was uranium glass, although I do tend to use the UV light on most items but this did surprise me.
m it is similar to the Cambridge glass Draped lady but this is not Cambridge Glass. I am still looking towards Czech or German. I did look through the Hoffmann catalogue as he made items on similar stepped bases but no luck.
Thanks Roy

What would be the reason this is made in uranium, does it look different in daylight Roy?. I've got a Victorian coraline uranium jug (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,64063.0.html) that looks the same in daylight similar colour but not as dark.
Big UV torch?.

Hi Chris
Looks pretty much the same in daylight . Does not really give any indication of being uranium unless under the uv light which is quite a big one . Not one for the pocket at a fair.

I agree Roy, there's no substitute for a decently sized UV light. This one is 1.2 m (4 feet) (the light not the bowl!).

Amber uranium is not uncommon but I've never seen anything so brown, though I do have grey and all pink.

I don't think anything definitive has ever been concluded about the WL Patent re coralene, though I know there's been lots of discussion about it, certainly on one of the Facebook groups.

Christine, do you have pics of your things under UV?
I didn't mean to imply my rose bowl was amber, it's the usual expected colour. I only just noticed in this pic the effect of the sun on the upper edge is giving it an edge of bright green colour.
-
No I don't Julie but they all glow very bright green
