Title: Help - old paperweight identification ?
Post by: Novasonic on January 07, 2017, 02:50:30 PM
Hi,

I thought this paperweight may be Murano when purchased, but it has a concave polished pontil mark, and feels a lot older than most I pick up.  Lots of wear to this weight as well.

6.2cm diameter x 4 cm high.

Millefiori canes on a base of mottled red and white.  Any help appreciated  !!!

Many Thanks

Rob

Hi Rob.  A nice piece - but I think it is Murano.  Although nearly all Murano pieces have a flat polished base, there was some factory making them (I think in the mid 20th century) with gently concave polished bases.  I recall seeing 3  (out of maybe 200 Murano paperweights) in the last few years.

Thanks Alan, The canes looked Murano to me, but I wasn't sure.
