Title: Lidl Display Cabinet

Hi,

Have any of you guys purchased a livarno living collectors display cabinet from Lidl to display your paperweights?

Currently £59.99 for the large size which seems reasonable.

Would the shelves take the required weight? Was thinking maybe to get some clear acrylic cut to lay on top of the shelves for reinforcement.

I reckon you're be better off getting reinforced glass cut to make shelves.
I would not trust plain glass to hold paperweights and if by acrylic, you mean perspex, it is not only very expensive, it dulls, goes opaque and scratches easily. It turns ugly very quickly.

           The item specs may give a max load for the shelves,worth checking.

I would  think it was probably OK if you didn't overload. Glass shelving is generally designed to hold some weight. It won't be ordinary glass.  I have 4-mm glass shelves with plenty of glass on and they are fine, not even bowed. Glass is actually very strong.

The recommended safe loading is just 1kg - thats 2 medium sized weights
or 1 magnum!

Also the length of the glass shelves is 27" and I wouldn't  fancy putting a
heavy weight in the middle of a shelf of this length.

The spec doesn't say whether its the glass doors ir the shelves that are safety glass.

I would strongly suggest replacing the shelves with 4 or 5mm plate glass and also keeping
the heavier weights close to the supports at the ends of the shelves.

I have 3 of these Lidl cabinets, in the plain beech wood version, all fully loaded.  All the shelves and the doors have the same safety toughened glass sticker on them.
Because some of the animals I have are large and heavy ( Adam Aaronson's glass elephants and Wedgwood elephants), there wasn't room for all 10 shelves,  so I doubled up on the shelving for the heavier pieces. I just need another 10 of these cabinets and I could then display about 50% of my collection.
One of the features I like is that the sides are glazed so more light floods on to the glass.
I think they are brilliant and excellent value for money.
