Title: First piece of Hartley wood or something else?.
Post by: brucebanner on January 28, 2017, 05:58:32 PM: A lovely ebay buy for a couple of quid, i think it has some age, really well made with a rough pontil and measures 9 inches in height.

Any thoughts welcome regards Chris.

What I've seen and handled, not that it's a lot, has been fairly finely blown and can be prone to little bubbles.
But it does look quite "tartan-y". :)

Also, I don't think white was used. I may well be completely wrong! ;D

Nice colours though - how much does it weigh?

Yours is 9" tall and only weighs 745 gms but appears to be thicker glass.

Yours seems quite light for 9" tall and with a 5mm rim by comparison to mine. I know one can't id a vase on that but it doesn't feel right.

Is the base indented quite a lot? it doesn't appear so from the pics? the pontil mark doesn't look like mine really either. But that might be neither here nor there.

I've had two pieces of Hartley Wood and, whilst the pontil scar was visible, yours is just different (hard to explain), it's just not 'soft' enough.
I could be totally wrong, as I am no expert at all, just an observation based on the pieces I had.
Its a lovely piece!
