Title: Rindskopf, Kralik or Loetz?
Post by: Gowdod on February 06, 2017, 07:40:36 AM
Dear All,

good morning. Thought the attached might be Bohemian and as aventurine present tending towards Rindskopf. Am I heading in the right direction?

thanks

Andrew

I think your aventurine might be mica. A closeup would help

Dear Christine,

thank you...Mica...of course.

Here's a close up, not the best however reinforces that view. :-)

Kind REgards

No, I think you were right the first time: aventurine

think I'd agree with Andrew's suggestion of aventurine ............   mica doesn't come in colours - high quality stuff is quite clear  - was used in valves etc., although lower quality stuff probably veering toward a slight browny/green....   but not gold. :)

Dear Christine and Paul,

thank you both very much.

The interior casing is a baby blue which plays so well in the light with the rich green overlay. Sandwiched in between with some dappled round darker green enamels and the gold aventurine. It's a fine piece.  Their is quite extensive wear on the basel ring which is fine under my eye glass. It's circa 6" tall and has weight.
Could it be Italian?

Kind regards

Andrew

dunno, Andrew  -  but you make it sound good enough to eat  ;D       Seriously, nice piece  -  you're lucky, just regret that not my area and unable to help, but sure others will.

Mica will take on the colour of the glass over it though. The aventurine may be called gold aventurine, but it's actually made with copper

yes, quite right - aventurine is copper and I should have said 'gold coloured', but then again aventurine is probably one of those words that's mis-used often.                In fact aventurine does look coppery in colour, rather than like gold.         Real gold leaf was used in some of the Murano pieces, I seem to recall, and have to say the flecks in this piece do look goldish in colour - perhaps more so than coppery in colour.

I was prompted to comment about mica as this was something I was involved with a few years back ;)           In my first job in the city I was with firm of brokers who amongst other things mediated with U.K. importers and exporters in India, and at that time there was still a trade in mica for radio valves and boiler windows etc., although it came to an end quite soon after I started.

I don't know the statistics but thinking of similar items we've had over the past few years, I seem to recall more pieces with aventurine and gold, than mica.         If you get a chance Christine, remind me of something we've had that included mica :)

Aventurine in chunks does look sparkly beautifully gold when it's under lighting :)
