I've seen two vases recently that were very pretty but I couldn't work out where they were from.
I was a bit suspicious to have seen two unusual pieces that I suspect were from the same maker/factory.
This bowl has a similar cased opalescent type effect to the vases
I think they may be from the same source.
Anyway, thought I'd add this as one day that label is going to fall off and everyone will be wondering from whence it came.
I don't know the answer but they are being sold as Portmeirion glass

I do know they made glass, I bought some years and years ago in TKMaxx.
What I bought was two large wastepaper buckets, (one for me and one for my brother) They're three layered, white inside the clear body and black outside the clear body, and etched in a Bridget Riley sort of design.
I still have my cardboard label sellotaped inside.
I have just run off to the cludgie (loo) with the camera...
ta-da!

oh, interesting - made in Poland. So possibly the quadruple? cased pieces might be made there as well.
The vases I've seen do not have a cut neck rim. They are hot finished iirc.
But the opalescent effect over the dark red is really pretty (on the vases) and very similar to the effect on these bowls.
The vases also look 'thickly' made like the bowls.

The rim is cut and polished, the inside edges of the black waves are rough.
Really rough, I can file my nails on them. :)
The base is completely flat, with some faint rings from being pressed in the mould.
It's well-made, but was not given a proper quality finish, to save time and money.
At the time, there were a lot of the window-green bubbly glass square plates and chargers from Portmeirion for sale too.
There were only two or three of these massive buckets and I bought two, it was around '00.

The label on the bowl says Made in China in very small print. :)

ah, interesting I didn't spot that :)
This is the vase I've seen and I've seen another in a paler colour but the same vase - thought it unlikely that there would be two the same and both Victorian?
