Title: George Davidson pedestal dish?
Post by: glass777 on March 17, 2017, 05:47:08 PM
I have a feeling this is a George Davidson pedestal dish, however there is no RD hall mark.

I have seen a similar George Davidson dish with similar rays on the base however this is a common pattern on any glass

Does anyone recognize the pattern?

Thanks.

Height: 14cm
Base Diameter: 10cm
Dish Diameter: 21cm

The type of foot, the shape of the bowl and rim, and the small ring under the bowl  are all found in Davidson comports of various designs. The most significant identifier would, however, be the decorative pattern on the bowl.

The images are rather small and the contrast is a little low to show the bowl design in sharp detail, so I've tweaked copies of  the photos to examine the decoration in somewhat more detail  but have failed to find a close match with any of the reference photos in the Glass Queries Gallery Davidson album at
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=1013

or with any of my Davidson registered design reference photos on the GMB RD Gallery at
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=763

or with any of the unregistered Davidson designs in their catalogues covering the period 1880-1890.

I've also drawn a blank with the Sowerby patterns on the GMB RD database and on the Sowerby pattern number gallery at
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=1001

I will try and look at designs from some of the other main British pressed glass manufacturers over the weekend and post again if I do find a close match.

Fred.

Thank you for your kindness,

This website won't let me upload large photo and this is why the pictures are small.

All I can say is that there is a diamond design on the outer dish, with rays in the middle.

I have some close ups.

You can upload images up to 125kb each, and you should be able to make each one around 700 pixels along its longest edge and still come in under that limit. We have advice about how to do this in our image help topic here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,34093.0.html

So some more information, if this helps.

The dish has a circular base with rays on it.
The stem of the dish is fluted, it is clear with a few air bubbles.
The dish outer is a diamond design, the inside of dish is smooth.
The rim is a frilled design.

I don't think it's either Davidson or Sowerby. Have you looked through here http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/index2.html

I found a westmoreland with a similar flute and base to my dish. Does any know of a westmoreland  that resembles my dish?
