Title: Mystery Pospichal vase
Post by: starlightroad on March 20, 2017, 07:46:58 PM
This vase is 15cm tall, deeply carved, no mould lines, high points polished. Top wall is 7cm thick. Base is smoothly polished, slightly concave. Even with 10X loupe, signature very tiny as if scratched with a pin (just "Pospichal"). Josef Pospichal? Any comments gratefully received.

With Mr. Pospichal's full name in hand, I did a bit of digging and found this bio. It's auto-translated, so...

Should show a picture here and a google translate of a newpaper article:

And a little from a CV history here:
http://ipac.kvkli.cz/arl-li/en/detail-li_us_auth-p0022346-Pospichal-Vlastimil-1921/
Translated a little of it and it reads as follows:-
'He apprenticed as a glass cutter, studied at the vocational glass school in Nový Bor and later at art school in Belgium, in Zelezny Brod and the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Prague. From 1945 he worked as a teacher at the glass school in Nový Bor. He wrote several books on glass technology, manufacturing experience in glass and glass refining. Some of its practices in technology, working with glass have been patented (pantografie). As a glass expert worked in France, Canada and Tunisia.'

That's the information I found, but I posted a picture of it instead of a URL, which is what I ought to have done... [The mention of Canada intrigues me, being that I found this vase in Canada.]
