Hi this is my first time on this forum
I have a glass vase in a silver plated stand. I have a hallmark on the stand which is S B & M EPGS
The vase is I think cut glass and looks hand painted with gold gilded.
but the vase has a pointed bottom. I have looked everywhere and cannot find anything similar.
i would appreciate any help. i have attached pictures

Could be a spittoon?

HI don,t think so most have a round bottom and I think its a bit ornate for spitting in lol.
But I could be wrong. any idea on what era.?

Last quarter of the 19th at a guess.

this plated mark is almost certainly Sturges, Bladdon & Middletown, who started in B'ham around 1884, and were still going apparently post WW II. Of course, this doesn't help remotely with the glass, assuming even that the two parts did start life at about the same time.
When I first saw the decoration I thought it looked Czechoslovakian, especially with the gilded background the thick looking pastel coloured enamels - and suppose that could be viable still since a lot of Continental glass was imported (see Silber & Fleming bits and pieces) during the latter part of the C19. I think the enamelled dotting is quite typical of late C19 early C20 decoration, and the whole thing looks ornate enough to be late Victorian - the extent of wear might help to suggest if quite old.
Sorry, can't help with it's use though, but suspect simply an ornate vase.

I have an almost identical piece complete with it's foot, my guess is this is a repair, the foot broken, it cut down and matched with the base, i can not put a pic of mine on as i'm currently packing away the remains of my glass collection.

A photo of the whole thing in profile would be useful, instead of looking down at an angle.

if those comment from Chris do apply here, then just possible this might suggest the glass part could be much later in the C20 than we had first thought. :-\
