Title: Etruscan Style vase
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on April 02, 2017, 06:18:06 PM
Etruscan style vase found at a car boot which no one else seemed to be interested in. Had an old label saying French Etruscan style mid 19th. I think the date is most likely correct but would not be sure if French.

Had a close look and it looks hand painted rather than transfer printed. I still researching who the image is.
Height 10.5"
Marked on the base with painted 5.
More than happy for the pictures to be used by anyone

Maybe ... and  maybe Harrach.  I'll have a look later if I get time and see if there are any matches for the decoration.
I think it's probably 1865 ish if not later but will see if there is anything to guide that in the book.

The Harrach mark is three feather plumes.  Maybe a coincidence but he has three plumes as well.

Thank you m for taking the time to have a look. I wonder if he's a real person or just made up.

Sorry for the late reply. I've had a brief look through (not in any detail on each page as it is a huge book) and it seems to have similarities with pieces produced in the 1870s from what I can see.  Nothing I can specify in detail but just the overall shape (no direct match to the actual shape but similarities with the neck and cup shape of the top and also the foot and stem) and the decorative details.  I couldn't see a match for the decoration in black or the portrait.
But I think (just my view, not a definitive) it is possibly Bohemian rather than French as a first start for searching.

Perhaps Harrach and perhaps Josephinenhutte maybe also worth a search.
It's a knight's helmet isn't it?

Is it not uranium glass?

Thanks for looking m and sorry for the late reply.

I did check under a uv light and its not uranium. I keep searching and come back if I find anything else.

Thanks Roy

No worries.  Is it possible for you to take a profile shot showing the stepped foot please?
I'm curious to know what it looks like from the side if you see what I mean?

Thanks
m
