Title: Help ID'ing this powder jar
Post by: Flex1968 on April 17, 2017, 04:28:45 PM
Curious to learn if this is considered a powder jar?
Also what era (Victorian?) and info on manufacturer, if known?

It has a metal band that is hinged on one side and has a metal clasp/closure on the other.
Handpainted, clear glass, measuring about 4.5" wide and 4" high.

Thanks!

Pretty Looks a little small for a powder bowl.

I wonder if it's something for a desk, rather than a powder bowl?  I've not seen one like it as part of a trinket set before but...  you never know.

I have an iridescent Art Nouveau piece without the ormulu stand more or less similar dimensions (without stand).
I think they were made in Bohemia and that they are powder boxes.

All of the decoration is consistent with a "Bohemian" origin. The "C Scrolls", based on acanthus leaves and the background "trellis grid" are typical of the "Egermann style" decor. A specific Bohemian maker will probably be hard to pin down.

Just an addendum:

Accidentally ran up on a similar item in Kovel's online guide, where they refer to it as a "Dresser Box"
(Their item is cranberry glass, flat glass top, and four-footed, but still quite similar to the one I have)
