Title: Whitefriars Wealdstone? ID = Strombergshyttan
Post by: luckytom on May 12, 2017, 07:20:50 PM
I tracked this vase on google. It says Whitefriars 'Wealdstone' Pale Gold Ribbed Footed Vase Ref : 1690 when i click on the link its for a sale site and has no more info.

Im curious as ive got this in sapphire its massive same foot but with a more shapely wavey rim from the ribs. I dont have it around so cant photo it yet. But does anyone have any more info on the vase in the pic or any ponters where i can find more info.

Regards

Hello Tom, quite sure both of the items you have mentioned are made by Strombergshyttan in Sweden and imported in to the uk by Elfverson and co.
This type of glass has been featured in a glass association journal featuring a collection belonging to Graham Cooley.
I am interested in this type of glass because of the links to Whitefriars glass.
Nice finds.
All the best,
Tim

Yes its one of those. Thankyou for the help. Its a big old boy. 11 inches tall x 8.5 in diameter at the widest point.
Have attached photos. Very similar to Whitefriars even the colour and pontil. No signatures on it though but the base has worn patina so it may have been signed originally.

Thankyou

I have a few of these and as Essi says they are Strombergshyttan and came in several sizes. They were designed by Capt H J Dunne Cooke, the one I have shown is signed by Dunne Cooke. Whitefriars didn't make any like these though and the blue is more pale than the Whitefriars sapphire.
