Hi.This piece has the the look of staying anonymous, however just in case it's 7.5" ht and 5" wd,a very neat small and central polished Pontil with a lot of wear to the base...any thoughs?thanks for looking.

not so sure the colour is correct for first third C18 - but think there's a chance that the gadrooning on the lower portions of the bowl were a feature, in the main, prior to bell bowls - however, these things always seem to overlap, so never entirely sure. If this were period, say 1700 - 1730, my suggestion is that there should be a higher domed foot and probably a snapped pontil scar underneath.
It would remain anonymous anyway, I'm certain, it's just whether it's genuinely old or not, but would agree probably a modern copy. :)

It's a tricky one date wise Paul ,but my unreliable thoughts are somewhere around 1930 ?
-
yes, you could well be correct - I've really no definite idea, and when I said modern I should have added that I meant somewhere in the C20.
-
I'm now wondering if this maybe a small celery vase?
-
hmmmm - changed my wording. the size is substantial, I agree ............ but it's the fact that it's modelled on actual features of first third C18 drinking glass that might suggest more that this was made as a novelty/frigger for decoration rather than use. Buy some celery and see how many sticks you can insert. ;)

I've found some rather old celery hiding in the fridge,it's one of the tesco celery hearts that come as a pair...hmmm maybe? ;)
