Hi

Found this a number of years ago and never been able to get an id on it. Any ideas or assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks Pat

The signature is Mdina, looks like 04 underneath, no idea what the rest refers too.

We haven't found a source for identifying these later Mdina marks unfortunately

I take it that somebody has already tried to get info from Mdina itself and got nowhere?

Hi

Thanks for the reply, yes that would seem to be the case thus far, have you a link for earlier pieces?

Thanks Pat

No, I haven't. I'm afraid my interest is just in the very early work, which the current company doesn't take any interest in.
There is not any "catalogue of Mdina marks" and while some are recognisable styles which can indicate a certain period, they can all vary a lot.

I did once try, many years ago. I found over 25 variations on just one execution and gave up.

Yes that seems to the picture on the marks. I have messaged the works today and will let you know if anything comes of it. Thanks for feedback on this Pat

There will hopefully be a new Mdina book.........

This message has been posted in the Facebook group  'Mdina, Isle of Wight, MDG, Kerry Glass and Michael Harris Collectors Group'

'Hello all... in 2018 Mdina Glass will be celebrating its 50th birthday and, to mark the occasion, I am working on an 'official history of Mdina Glass' book. I am trying to cast my research net as wide as possible so, if anybody has any info they might think is interesting and useful, or maybe some material they think would be relevant and can share, I would love to hear from you. When it comes to the raw facts I am well covered as I am talking to individuals who were central to the company throughout the years... but anything obscure or a bit left-field could add more depth.

Feel free to PM me and we'll then take it from there.

With thanks in advance,

Mark Warner'

Cheers, Patrick.

Patrick

Many thanks for the info on the book. Certainly something that is needed alright, was wondering how useful you have found the company of Mdina with your research?  and also whether you had come across the marking on this piece I posted?

Thanks Pat

People have had varying degrees of success contacting Mdina for info. I know some people have had success but ive written a few times about early Mdina and haven't had any replies. I think with the later Mdina signing they had various markings which seems to have regularly changed and there are no markings that have been used consistently enough to study and make conclusion from. Most of the styles of base signing up to the point of Eric Dobson leaving in 1985 are known.
