Title: Cobalt blue enameled leech pot?
Post by: brucebanner on July 29, 2017, 10:24:44 PM
A nice carboot 20p piece i think has a lot of age with a weight of only 160grams and a lot of foot wear.

Rough pontil and the base is kicked up about 6mm.

Very leech pot shaped (that's if they are leech pots) and mesasures 3 inches in height and 3 inches across the rim.

I think probably a small vase, no idea really of age or maker.

Any thought's welcome regards Chris.

from memory Chris, Julie is the girl for leech pots - hopefully she'll look in.                  My opinion is that the rim is too flanged for a leech pot, but like anything else they no doubt varied in their design/shape.

Typical Bohemian gilding IMO

bizarrely that dark blue glass always reminds me of Parad Hungarian glass though Christine.
For some reason I just don't associate it with Bohemian glass, but the enamelling reminds me of those opaline vases with pale enamels and outlined patterns if you know the ones I mean?  So perhaps it is Bohemian.

A search of the online museum collection on Hungarian glass reveals nothing similar though so it's probably just my mind playing tricks.

I don't think it's a leech pot - too decorated, too wide a rim, too large.

I have posted about the cobalt blue glass decorated with white dots and someone I think said Bohemian, though I did mention Parad. Will find the post.

20p to £30??

I sold a piece of Webb's amberina recently on eBay that cost me 20p for £30, the buyer then sold it on for £300 no way did I think it was worth that much I could have kicked myself, I have to get up early drive for miles spend hours trying to research the things I find they don't grow on trees.

perhaps 'Peachblow' or 'Burmese', rather than amberina ?

Alexandrite - very attractive stuff, and I'd assume quite rare now  ...............   am sure we've had pix on the Board previously.
