Post by: Patrick on August 02, 2017, 08:43:46 AM
Hi,

Does anyone own an example of the tall vase at the back please?

Thanks,

Patrick.

This advert is reproduced in Mark Hill's book - I have often wondered about that vase or bottle. Is it simply a stylised Tricorn bottle? It does not look quite like one... So no, not seen one myself.

Some Tricorns here for reference: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,59060.0.html

A thought...........
The other items shown are well depicted and I think the tricorn bottle, if that is what it is, would have a button top.
It may well remain a mystery !

Cheers,

Patrick.

Those other items are well depicted which makes me think the bottle probably was too, it might be a design that evolved into something else or maybe a shape that was dropped for some reason.

I have always assumed it was a variation of one of the large, partially cased, textured bottles.

Yes could be one, can't think of any other design from Mdina that was partially cased like that - I am ignoring the dipped wings of fish vases as they don't really fit this situation!

It is a technique that Harris used an few years later at IoWSG with the small strapped aurene bottles and also many of the cylinder vases made in the 1970s (aurene, pink & blue swirls, etc).

Well, we know the moulds they used for those could be adjusted, they were used on small pots, square bottles and rectangular bottles, all partially cased.
And the drawing looks as if it is representing a textured piece. :)

I could be something similar to this Patrick , which is in the IoW glass museum attached to IoW Studio Glass. I took this photo recently during my visit . It has a rim at the top, but so did early fish vases....
