Title: Polish paperweight AP signature ID required
Post by: user9318 on August 22, 2017, 11:14:35 AM
I have a Polish paperweight, where it is marked on the base, with what looks like AP, but could it be Adam Jablonski with a poorly signed J instead of what I see a P

I tried googling for polish paperweights and AP, but no results, all that kept cropping up was Adam Jablonski paperweights.

Thank you in advance for any help. Showiing the weight in question, as well as the signature and sticker, as they may help in deciding who maker is or isn't.

The A does not look like a Jablonski A, while his J is a strange shape, with a sort of small M shape at the top, and a small, long thin loop at the bottom, so I do not think it could be a mis-written AJ. I've just compared it directly with a signed piece.

Thank you Sue, I will try and wade through google again, ignoring the Jablonski paperweights.

Hello again.
I have heard from Wolf Seelentag who has told me that he has several examples of Jablonski's marks and he thinks this could well be a Jablonski piece, the way the letters are written are consistent with other examples.
I would certainly bow to his superior knowledge of this matter.  :)
He sent me a link to this example of a full signature from Anik here;

I have Wolf's permission to tell you all this.

and I have taken some pics of my sculpture.
I should also say, it does look like Jablonski's work. ;D

sorry for sending you on wild goose chases!

Thank you Sue and Wolf for the help and ID There is no need to apologise, it wasn't a typical AJ signature to decipher. That is a lovely vase, having seen more of Jablonski's work during this search, there are lots lovely and impressive pieces that were made.

Thank you again :)

Thanks. It's not actually a vase, it's a sculpture. You can perhaps work out how big it is, because it's sitting on the loo seat. (The room is white and has good lighting.)

The bottom is hollow and it has weird stretched up bits with holes in. It does strange colour changes too, the orangey colour gives rise to slightly luminous greens when light comes through it. It's fascinating. :)

I do apologise, ageing eyes! Still a lovely piece regardless, love the colours. reminds me a little bit of the Czech art glass, rainbow colours, the designers name escapes me at the moment, Frank I think is the first name.

You and me both.  ;D
I currently try to focus on stuff with 4 different pairs of glasses, none of which actually achieve focussing, not the way I used to be able to. It's not cool so I'm not going to use the shades emoticon.  :P
My sculpture was an early TKMaxx find. You used to be able to get good stuff there sometimes. ;D

I sometimes swap with a different pair of glasses, never know which pair is better! :)

Good luck with your future finds, there is an antiques street fair here on Sunday, so may find something nice to buy hopefully :)
