Title: two jugs and a vase
Post by: retrolesley on September 14, 2017, 12:57:03 PM
Hello All..

I picked up these 3 together and they have been puzzling me... They are quite heavy, good quality & have a polished pontil.
My inital thoughts were - Empoli, but the colour and weight slightly put me off that....
Any thoughts would be appreciated,
 Cheers, Lesley  x

The colour reminds me of older items by Anchor & Hocking, USA.

I thought that too, Kevin, but the shapes aren't familiar as AH. I did wonder about Blenko as they also made Ruby Red glass but haven't found a match for these. It's worth a browse through the collectors' site though, just in case: http://www.blenkocollectors.com/

It might be worth a little search on the name Zbigniew Horbowy.
He designed some amazing and weird shaped tall things in fabby colours in the '70s.
A Polish artist, whose name should be far better known. ;D

The vase on the far left is a bit similar to his work, the others are a bit more angular, but I'm not as familair with his work as I'd like to be.

:) I need to thank Anik for introducing me to Zbigniew Horbowy's work.
She gave me an oddly shaped red vase, the colour is amazing, so deep and pure, it's tactile. Sometimes, it looks as if it is sulking.

We need to know more about Polish glass artists. I've been to Museums in Poland and I've seen their work, I cannot understand why the rest of the world doesn't know about them!
