Hi all
I haven't been on this site for a long time but I'm getting back into glass again and I have a question.
I bought this vase at auction as Monart but I'm really not sure that it is. It is 10 inches tall with an applied foot and a polished pontil which is not raised.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Carol

Hi Carol,
That foot is rather strange. Although I know only a little about Monart (and Vasart / Strathearn etc.), other than the paperweights, the way the foot is applied does not look like typical Scottish work to me.
Would it be possible for you to add your photos to the thread as we can then keep them here for future reference if similar items are discussed. If you do try to add the photos here but run into problems, just post a note in the thread and I (or another Moderator) can take copies, reduce them in size and post for you.

Looks to me like a Whitefriars cloudy vase that has had damage to the foot and has been "remodelled". Could be a pattern number 3000.

Hi Kevin
Thanks for responding. I haven't been able to put up the photos as I couldn't get them to size correctly so feel free to sort for me and put up wherever you feel they would be best for future reference.
Thanks also to Marc as I had thought it might be Whitefriars as well but the foot is different from the pictures I have seen.
Still a bit of a mystery although I am leaning on the side of Whitefriars right now but will check the colour against my cloudy bowls and see if they match.

:)
There is loads of Techie help and info here about posting images directly to the board.

I'm afraid I refuse to click on external links to images; I don't trust the hosting sites, they can mess my pc up, so I cannot see your vase. :'(

Please see Carol's initial post for images now added to the thread.

Something has definitely happened to the foot. It's been reshaped.
Quite a good idea to deal with dreadful chips to make it presentable really. It will affect the market value badly but improve the appearance for display.
I'd lean towards WFs or Powell. I don't think it's Monart. ???
It's nice. I'd give it house room. :)

Following on from Marc's and Sue's responses, I have changed the thread title in order to hopefully attract more viewers.

Thanks for this. I do think it's Powell on balance. If you are seriously interested just let me know as I do intend to sell. Thanks Carol

Thanks. I think you are exactly right on the shape and colour way. It's a pretty piece but i think the foot has been reshaped. Carol

I was not offering to buy it, apologies if you thought i was.
Merely commenting on its attractiveness, despite the remodelled foot.

No problem it is a pretty piece as you say and I expect someone will want it. If it doesn't sell no matter as it displays well anyway. :)

It's 100% Whitefriars but has been badly modified. It may be the best of a bad job for a damaged foot, but I'd personally have left it with damage. It will have very little value left in it like this. They are beautiful vases though.

I agree it's very sad but there it is. It is lovely though.
