Hi,
Does it an apprentice piece? Height 4,6 cm, diameter base 6,9 cm. It has a polished concave base with external ring, the surface is worn. Any idea of origin/age.
Best regards, thanks.
Marc.

Hi Marc. I am fairly sure this belongs to a group of paperweights from an as yet unknown maker, most of which have turned up in England - so probably an English factory. I have several of these, and you can match canes between them. As for age - probably 19th century.

Hi Alan,
Thank you very much for the information, I have sent to your mail a photo for your file.
Best regards.

There is some resemblance to 1950s Murano paperweights, although those usually do not have clear grounds. I am thinking of the "gift" weights given away by Acker & Jablow in New York in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Still, I defer to Alan's expertise in this example.

Hi Allan,
Imho I do not think it is murano, for these reasons:
- The base is concave with a ring
- The white canes seem more finer and more elaborate than murano ones.
I have weighed a murano of similar dimensions and weighs 20 percent less than the other one, I think murano glass doesn't contein lead.

All good points. The sloppy appearance was what reminded me of those Murano weights.

Hi Allan. All the ones shown in my image above are lead crystal, SG 3.10 to 3.20, so I would rule out Murano.
