Title: Bollicine/ pulegoso type vase with applied red handles - ID sought
Post by: Mosquito on December 07, 2017, 03:10:14 AM: I recently bought this interesting vase. The body is in a bubbled glass -- the bubbles are a bit finer than on my SVDA pulegoso vase, so I guess this would be described as a bollicine?

It stands about 10 inches (25 cm) tall, and has two applied handles in red glass. The handles have a twisted design and show a distinct yellower band where they meet the body at the lower end (maybe due to a cooling or heating effect if the red is selenium based).

At the moment I'm completely stumped as to maker as I haven't found anything quite similar. My best guess is that it's an older Murano piece, but similar bubbled glass has been made elsewhere (e.g. CMS Krasno). Therefore if anyone has any ideas as to origin, I'd be very grateful to hear them.

The photos are from the listing and are used with permission by ebay user mik_kell.

I'm travelling at the moment, so haven't had any chance to take my own pics, but I'll try to update with a pic of the base as soon as I can.

The form and handles match my vase, but the body is in opaque red. I'm not sure if the attribution is accurate of course, but at least it gives a possible maker to research further. I've contacted the seller to see how they arrived at the ID and will update if there's any reply.

I have one similar attributed to Stelvia, though i have no idea why, maybe i saw one with a label at some point.

Thanks very much for your suggestion. Searched for Stelvia directly but couldn't find an exact match. However, searching for 'Empoli' brought me to 'Opalina Fiorentina' which then brought me to a matching vase with an 'Opalina Fiorentina' label. That vase was on an old eBay listing so I don't know how long the link will stay valid. However, There are others out there with the same attribution. :)

If your vase is the same maker, i think that's the first time i've seen one with this type of decor.

I was surprised by this too. From the technique I was thinking Murano rather than Empoli. The shape and proportions of the vases do seem a close match, though of course it's possible that more than one firm made this shape.

The description section in the eBay listing (with auto translation to English) says: "Murano opaline Chinese".
