Title: Azurene style vase with DSG mark
Post by: chilternhills on December 09, 2017, 08:45:44 PM: I came across this vase the other day. It is in the style of Isle of Wight Studio Glass 'Azurene', with applied gold leaf (no silver leaf) with DSG impressed into a prunt on the base. Perhaps SG = studio glass. The vase is 15 cm high and about 8.5 cm max diameter. Holding the vase up to the light shows a huge number of tiny bubbles.

I thought it would be easy to track this down on the web but no luck. Can anyone help out? Thanks.

Could be worth a look.

Post by: chilternhills on December 09, 2017, 09:42:06 PM: This vase likely dates from the 1980s or 1990s since it copies the huge success that IOWSG had with Azurene from the late 1970s onward. It is clearly a studio piece, hence my guess that SG = studio glass.

We do know he used this technique, as did Iestyn Davies at Stuart Strathearn.
Are there others who trained there at that time, and moved on too?
It doesn't look like Charlie Meaker's work, but I've only really seen the blue bits with clear strapping. I don't know what else he did. :)

It would be inadvisable not to consider Dxxxx Sxxxxxxx Glass or even Sxxxxx Dxxxxxx Glass as possible makers. For example David Smallhouse is an ex Orient & Flume maker who could make this oh so easily. An enquiry through his Facebook site might pay dividends.
