Title: ID for clear glass vase with ray pattern
Post by: Spike on December 11, 2017, 06:30:50 PM
Hi there

I'm asking for a forum I'm on and this is the only photo of the vase. It is driving me nuts that I cannot find this online after literally hours of searching.

We have asked the owner to put up the base etc, to no avail.

Does anyone know where this was made, factory etc?

Many thanks

I asked the owner what the base looks like and he says it is "completely flat". I have asked for a photo but in 24 hours he hasn't posted one.

I've no idea who made it but there's one for sale here :

Perhaps the pictures will help. There's also a similar vase with a rounded cross section on the same site

Thank you John. looking at that base, which seems to have a bird bath dip in it. Would you say it's Sklo Union?

I have a feeling that 'Sklo Union' is simply Czech. for 'pressed glass', so in that sense this is Sklo Union  -  although whether this was made in  Czechoslovakia remains to be seen  -  it may not have been.
Good thought though, and the 'bird bath' base can often mean the piece is from that part of the world  -  however, the picture of the base I'm seeing in the link from John does not look like the 'bird bath' base on genuine Czech. pieces  -  with those there is usually a substantial indent.

Driving yourself nuts because a particular design can't be found, is a common occurrence, try not to let it worry you too much  -  sometimes we just have to learn to live with failure ;)

It's of German manufacture, I know as much as that, several examples on eBay.de labelled Bleikristall made in Germany...could not tell you by who though, but hopefully it's a push in the right direction.

not Peill & Putzler? There seem to be a lot of similar designs in their catalogues, but I don't have any complete reference material.

I don't know much about P & P but I would have thought you'd have found their acid mark somewhere.

Here's an example of what I suggested earlier.

P&P is not always marked.  :)
I have several bits of Shleiergraphit with labels only.
What I cannot see from the pic is the colour of the glass. P&P would be a good, verging on blue-ish colour.

Another maker that might be relevant is Hortensja. They were recently found to be the maker of a mystery, high quality, pressed glass vase of a similar shape and an unusual texture. But the colour of the glass was not so good, a little yellow.
