:) Hi Gary, my tummy rumbles a little bit towards wfs. The lampwork reminds me of things Leni has shown me that have been made for her using up old bits, although I've not seen this particular bird, the general layout and complex cane surround is fairly typical, isn't it?
As you know, i'm not knowledgeable about wither wfs or pwts, you can ignore me if you like.
I'm only reporting tummy rumbles. :)

Reminds me of a Pirelli bird that ended up in a Vasart or Strathearn paperweight. If you have a copy of Angela Bowey's and my paper in the PCA 2015 bulletin. That was a Kingfisher, this is not, but the lampwork is similar. I'll see if I can find pictures suitable for posting. Or maybe Angela will have them.

I do not recognise the cane, but the overall design reminds me of William Manson's work from the 1979-1981 William Manson Paperweights / Scotia period, or 1981 onwards when he was at Caithness Glass.
However, in the William Manson catalogue entries shown in the books I have there is no exact match to a lone Robin on a branch. But there is a 1981 Willaim Manson Caithness Glass design of Robin + branch with flower head, surrounded by a single garland of canes that might be similar.

I mentioned earlier that the bird in the paperweight reminded me of a Vasart or Strathearn paperweight contained a kingfisher lampwork scrap from the Pirelli.
The story is told in the 2015 PCA Bulletin Article "Pirelli, Vasart, and the Ysart Family" by Angela Bowey and Allan Port. The source of the information was John Deacons. John described "how the glassblowers at Pirelli used to throw away the ends of their glass rods which were too short for lampworking into a tea-chest which was later put into the back of George Dunlop’s car and brought to Scotland. This glass came from the same suppliers (Plowden and Thomson of Stourbridge) as the glass cullet used at Vasart/Strathearn so it was compatible for use in Vasart and Strathearn paperweights and other products."
I've attached two pictures: (1) a Kingfisher lampwork creation from Pirelli and (2) a paperweight from Vasart or Strathearn containing a scrap piece of lampwork from Pirelli.

eta. I've just been looking for some of his birds, but can't find any. He did make complex and accurate birds, inbetween working at Strathearn before it closed, and before he set up making weights at Perthshire.
I met him, selling lampwork birds on agate slices, during this time. I had quite a long chat with him, I was very impressed with his birds. (But I'm not fond of agate slices, and especially not when dyed glow-in-the-dark unnatural colours, so I, reluctantly, did not buy any.)

Whoever made the weight in question seems to have used the Caithness Glass "Robin" weight of 1981 as a model. See here for an enlargeable example (http://www.icollector.com/Caithness-Glass-1981-Faceted-Robin-Paperweight_i7866083) (without having to go into Pinterest !)
Or could it have been a prototype for the Caithness one?
Note that the canes, although different in colour, are of the same basic design.

thanks Sue , Yes Kev defo looks same idea and same canes just different colour as you said , though manson jnr did show my weight to manson snr who said defo not him or Caithness but it does look like the Caithness collectors 1983 robin and kettle weight aswell ===

Agreed Gary, the Robin in the 1983 Robin & Kettle example is very close to the mystery one. And it does not have the finer detail in the beak and feet as the earlier one.
