Hi, I'd be grateful if anyone can identify the maker and year of this pressed? Glass house.
I think it's a paper weight but not sure as it maybe just a novelty?
It's unmarked.
Thanks a lot Mike

Is it hollow? If so it may be a candy container. If it's solid it's just a decorative piece.I'll move this over to Glass as it's not really a paperweight as such.

Hi Anne,
Yes it is hollow, it's quite a weight for a small piece hence why I thought paperweight.
Another from our surplus box.
Thanks

I'd agree not a paperweight, and the only comparable design in clear glass that I can think of is Davidson's Reg. 207909 (20.02.1893), which according to Ray Slack's book was designed specifically as a tea caddy .......... size is given as 4.5 inches in height. On that one the roof forms the lid and is detachable.
What is the size of your house Chris - is the lid separate, and does it incorporate a base? Anne may well be correct with the suggestion that yours could be for sweets.

This is about 9cm wide x 10cm high, with no base. Wouldn’t cover many sweets as it’s quite small.
Thanks Mike

The sweets were often quite small, bead size or even smaller, like sprinkles, Mike. There is a dedicated website about candy containers here http://www.candycontainer.org which might be of interest. :) Once empty the glass shape became a child's toy - there are hundreds of different designs from animals to buildings to vehicles - I even spotted a tank!

Right oh! Thanks Anne, you are leading me in a whole new direction I never knew existed. I see there are similarities and I shouldn’t be surprised as I put this up the other day, which you maybe familiar with.
Cheers Mike

Hi Anne,
That candy container link has resolved several items in our mystery box as we have a little battle ship.
Just pointing in the right direction does help.
Cheers Mike

I have a whole village of glass houses, some are empty candy containers, some are solid and some hollow but just designed as ornaments, The ornament ones were by BleiKristall, no idea who made the others though.
I haven't got one like yours Mike, so if ever you are thinking of estate relocation.........!? :) :)
