Title: Lobster and Serpent basket
Post by: thewingedsphinx on January 28, 2018, 08:22:59 PM
Grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction to identify this basket. 18x16 cm
It has serpent feet similar to the portieux vallerysthal argonaut style with wings and lobster pattern.
Thanks

Not knowing who its by, I think that the serpents look more like fish, something like gurnards?

I think I've found something but the catalogue image isn't very clear.

Leblanc 1897 model nr 428 'Marine' (makes sense). It's 18 cm and the feet look like fish-heads, but again, not very clear.

Hi Anne,
Thanks very much that's fantastic, I had been looking at the
http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/index2.html website at a blue Meisenthal piece which has similar feet and tail, here is another picture it has front paws plus wings and scales. See below.
I don't know anything about Leblanc so I shall investigate.

Thanks very much.

It looks like something's sitting on the fish's neck? :D

The Meisenthal has got mythological style dolphins as feet.

I found another one, attributed to George Sand (but it isn't). In the catalogue it is mentioned that this model came in a clear version and a turquoise with yellow version. The one in the link shows the pattern a bit more clear.

What looked to me like something sitting on its back, is actually the upward body of the fish. The legs on the side must be this little claws that these fish have, just behind the head.

Yes, so it’s a scene of sea creatures a lobster and gurnard fish with side fins and not a serpent with wings. We are sorting out my folks glass collection and have nothing else like this. It’s been in a cupboard for 20 years.
The one on eBay is the same design.
The link in your first post is extremely helpful.
Thanks
