Title: Scottish Antique Millefiori Paperweight Paul Ysart? ID = Vasart (likely)
Post by: stubbsywubsy on February 13, 2018, 03:23:51 PM
Hello
i have this Scottish Strathearn Type paperweight, this appears to be an early one with as polished pontil and more inclusions in the glass, it feels earlier than the more common type. i was wondering if anyone could ID this for me, i did think it may be a Ysart one?
kind regards Steven

Doesn’t look like Paul Ysart to me..I would say early Strathearn or late vasart but others will tell you more accurately...but I’m happy with my not Paul Ysart assessment.

fatbelly is correct - it is not by Paul Ysart.

I believe t is either Vasart or Strathearn but I do not know which. And if it is Vasart, I cannot say which period of Vasart it might be. The many random bubbles and the height of the canes sticking out of the ground suggest it is pre-Strathearn. But the base finish is unusual for Vasart (soda glass period or lead glass period). It is also unusual for Strathearn which is so often fire polished.
