Fire polished base and around 2¾" in diameter, another Vasart weight?
John

As a general
rue rule (but always subject to other details) my understanding is:
If it looks like Vasart or Strathearn
- and the base is finished with grinding, then call it Vasart
- and the base is finished with fire polishing then call it Strathearn
-
Another puzzle! ;D
As a general rule or as a general ruse, Kev? ;)
(you've picked me up on my daft typos before, I'm getting my own back! :-* )

Ha ha. Nice one Sue, well found.
Actually I could leave it at it is, but I should have put a caveat in my comments ... and I was just coming back to correct it when you added your reply.
The caveat is:
... Bear in mind that Vasart fire polished some grounds in their last years prior to becoming Strathearn - but for those weights the canes will normally still be well proud of the ground.
And another point (about "canes proud of the ground") is ... many other weights from various makers may show "canes proud of the ground", not just Vasart ones.
A search with the Paperweights forum for "cane proud ground" will reveal many threads touching on these point.

Thanks for the caveats. They really are important. :)

Thanks Kevin, I was leaning towards Vasart because I thought the canes were standing proud of the ground, I obviously need an example to compare!
