Title: Czech glass bowls, but designer and maker unknown - please help
Post by: bohemianczechglass on March 07, 2018, 06:02:51 PM
I bought a pair of unusual and elegant bowls at the weekend - one large and one small, but both the same design. The photographs are of the smaller bowl.
I bought the bowls from an old Czech couple who were given them as a wedding present. They believed they were Skrdlovice glass but were not sure. If they were a wedding present this must date them about late 1950's - 1960's.
The small one is about 20 cm across and 7 cm tall, the larger one is 33 cm across and 9 cm tall.

The design is unusual and I hope someone recognises the design.

Your help would be much appreciated as I paid a good price for the bowls and their pedigree is important.

Hi  -  the bowl showing here certainly has features found on Skrdlovice designs  -  the pulled side lobes and heavy irregular segmented rim - and the colour is also seen on their glass.             If it is the date you suggest, Mark Hill comments in his booklet 'Hi Sklo Lo Sklo' -  "Attributing designs from the 1950s to designers is hard due to the current lack of information, and the fact that, at this point Czechoslovak Glass Review did not list designer's names against photographs."                Did the old couple say definitely these pieces had been wedding gifts?
If you look on line you should see plenty of Skrdlovice pieces that show similar characteristics, though this doesn't automatically mean yours are the same, but fingers crossed someone may recognize this exact design.
