Some of you may have noticed the 1935 catalogue of Val & Cie, France on glas-musterbuch.de, offering 'the largest range of ceramics and glass'.

I was happy to see this vase, and further three glass vases, on page 9 - described as "Vase bohème 64 18677"

 Val & Cie page 9  (http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Val-et-Cie-1935.443+B6YmFja1BJRD00NDMmcHJvZHVjdElEPTE3NDYxJnBpZF9wcm9kdWN0PTQ0MyZkZXRhaWw9.0.html)

These 18... numbers are the original consecutive model numbers of Stölzle Hermanova Hut, Bohemia - please refer to M. Newhall 'Sklo Union - Art Before Industry', Hermanova before 1958.

As 18677 is not included in that 'before 1958' catalogue -'Vase bohème 64 18662' may serve as a proof  :)

thanks Pamela - very interesting.               Regret my knowledge of the ownership of Continental pre-WW II moulds for pressed glass is very patchy  -  so in my ignorance have to ask you ................   I assume the moulds used by Val & Cie are the exact same moulds used later by Hermanova Hut.               Do I have that correctly, by which I mean, were these moulds first used by the French Co., then subsequently in Czechoslovakia  or   is it the other way around?   -  and were they acquired legitimately?

Hermanova Hut looks to have had a complex history, at least during the second half of the C20

It's a shame the Hermanova Hut catalogue doesn't include an image of the 'winged' vase (neither does the book) - it's a very impressive piece, and a little reminiscent of one of Lalique's large opalescent 'wing' handled vases.             Assume 18677 is a rare piece - I will keep an eye out for one for you ;)

Thank you, Paul - actually I've got  a pair of 18677  (http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/vasen/09870.html)  in amber, so no need to intensively look out for more for me  ;D

With this catalogue Val & Cie offered ceramics and glass not as a maker but as importers/wholesale, I believe.

Thanks again for your comment!  :-*

I always appreciate your sharing your knowledge which is immense and the outcome of your thorough investigations!
Always lifting my hat, and I'm now curious about your closer views on Val & Cie., of course  :)

Hi Pamela  :)

I'm sorry to disappoint  :-[ but I have little knowledge on Val & Cie unfortunately.  But I am very curious because of a possible link to a vase I owned. I sold it but it was a beautiful piece and strangely made, so I still want to find out more about it if I can.  I've too little time to do glass stuff at the moment but hopefully one day someone will draw together some strands about Val & Cie and your information will be an important part I am sure.  Maybe someone has whilst I've been off doing other things!
