Title: Old Millefiore for ID - Poss Whitefriars??
Post by: Glassylady on March 25, 2018, 01:47:08 PM
Hi there.
Is anyone able to identify this millefiori paperweight please? Weight 1.12kg, 10cm diam and about 6cm high with clear swirls, from making, within the clear glass.
It looks very similar to the 1930s Whitefriars, from photos in a book, but I can’t see the foot style of those.  Mine has a low foot. There are a few scratches and flea bites around the sides and it does look old, even if it’s not a known name.
I have other photos close-up to send if it helps. Many thanks.

Hi Glassylady, welcome to the GMB.

Your paperweight is more likely to be from one of the companies: Richardson, Arculus or Walsh Walsh and could date from around 1920 through to 1950s. It might even be from an as yet unknown English company in that time period.

Your photos are way too small to see reasonable detail of the canes and structure of the weight. You are allowed up to 125Kb per photo (with four photos per post) and a better size for images is 600 or 700 pixels for the widest side.

Please see: TECHIE TIPS: Resizing images to fit the board  (https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,34093.0.html)for help with resizing. I recommend the free internet routine at http://www.picresize.com/ which is simple to use and produces very good results.

I think it is Arculus / Walsh Walsh, probably 1920s or 1930s.  Little or nothing was made in the 1940s, and Walsh Walsh closed in 1951.

Thank you both for such quick replies. Very glad to know about it.
In case it adds anything here are a couple of photos with, hopefully, better quality. Regards
