Title: Coronation? Glass info Skip or not?!
Post by: KS-W on April 16, 2018, 08:28:54 PM
Hi All,
Forgive me as I know nothing about glass. This came out of one of the skips at my local dump. The question is do I put it back there?!. I couldn't leave it to get crushed.
It looks to have some age to it and the subject matter would suggest early 50's. If so it's a lucky survivor with the orb on the top.
Don't think it's modern as I don't think anyone would consider it a sensible thing to manufacture anymore.
I assume it's cheap glass and mass produced as the lines are so prominent from the mound/pressing. Possibly a jewellery box?
Feel free to have a good laugh at my expense if it's last christmas' M&S junk! ;D

Hello and welcome to the board. Please don't put it back in the skip!  :o

I collect trinket sets and I'm wondering if this is a dresser pot of some kind, but admit it's one I've never seen before. The holes in the lid are interesting...  I've seen pots with single holes which are hair collectors, but not one with multiple holes like this. I can't help but wonder if it originally had a velvet insert below the lid to make it look like a proper crown?  Let's see what the others make of it...

Oh and just so you know, you can add up to 4 photos per post, where you select your attachment there's a wee line below the attachment box that says (more attachments) click it to open the 2nd, and click again for the 3rd and again for the 4th attachment boxes - it's not obvious I'm sorry to say.  Hope this helps.  ;)

Thankyou Anne, I'm glad you say not to put it back in the skip as I'd feel a bit silly if it was modern junk!
It doesn't appear to have any remnants of fabric but I can see what you mean. If it did it's long gone now.
I did try with the photos but was struggling with the image size error note which wanted me to take them from the far end of the kitchen!. Hence the quality isn't good. So I posted and then went and took some more. No idea how I duplicated it on the second pic!.

 :)
While it looks like something from a trinket set at first, could the religious symbols all over it mean it might be a container for communion wafers?

Ignoring the decor ... potpourri holder?

That would be a logical conclusion and a good reason for the holes in it.

Anne, I've just found one on Etsy thanks to your Pot Pourri suggestion  :)
Theirs seems to be amber not pink and is chip free which sadly mine isn't but they want £200 for it!.
If this works-

Great! A lot of money to ask though, for something they can't place or attribute.

You've got to love an optimist!. But interesting that they haven't really got a clue either. I will keep researching.
