We are a bit confused as we have never seen a shade with an rd number which is 505105 but with made in austria and the design is rinlet does it mean that it is an English design that was manufactured in Austria? The fitting end is an odd size at 8.7cm approx also maybe not for oil lamps really not to sure any ideas?

It dates to about about 1907 and it's for an electric lamp, as there is nowhere for the heat from an oil or gas lamp to go. It depends who registered the design. Sometimes designs were registered by wholesalers and sometimes they were registered by the designer, be it a person or a company

According to Jenny Thompson's book, The Identification of English Pressed Glass, the RD no. 505105 was registered on 21st June 1907 (along with nos. 505106 and 505107) by S Reich & Co. (Annotated as "see prior", said prior entry stating "S Reich & Co. London, Glass Maker") but they were in fact a Bohemian glassmaker. Their 1880 catalogue shows some lampshades (sadly not yours as it's later, of course) http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Reich-1880.372.0.html
