Title: Help with identification - thought it was Caithness.
Post by: johngduffus on May 13, 2018, 04:39:30 PM: I recently acquired this small paperweight for my collection. I assumed it was Caithness but there are no markings and I have not been able to find it in my Caithness Paperweight Catalogue. Can anyone please shed any light on this lovely little weight? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've not seen this one yet (i keep an eye out in Heart Foundation and what is in TKMaxx if I can).
I think I'd have suspected Caithness too. The joy of glass is that if you have a lovely piece of glass, is that no matter what it is, or who made it, or when, a lovely bit of glass is always a lovely bit of glass. :)

It looks to me similar to the pieces Caithness made for the shop 'Past Times'. But it is probably worth the same modest amount whether it is Caithness or Chinese...beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

Post by: johngduffus on May 15, 2018, 08:18:43 PM: Thank you all for your contributions. It was acquired because I thought it was a pretty piece and not because of any potential value. I thought it was Caithness when I saw it but couldn't understand why no markings, not even C11G. It has joined others in my display and shares a cabinet with Caithness, Perthshire, Strathearn and Paul Ysart and doesn't look out of place.

Have you considered contacting Caithness in Crieff and asking then if they know whether this weight is theirs or not?
I didn't know they were making weights for "past times".

According to the Charlton catalogue, amongst the many commissioned weights that Caithness made were two designs for Past Times - this and a very similar one, issued in 2000 for the Queen Mother's centenary.
