Title: Scandinavian Ryd goblet or other ?

I was wondering whether this could be a Ryd goblet - its colour matches some of the other R pieces
I’ve seen on ‘ Images ‘.

Cut and polished rim.
Quite a bit of base wear.
Its base bit is heavy(ish) , although it’s hollow.

Ht. 16.5cm ( 6.5”)
Wt 400gm

Help appreciated—thanks for looking.

My photo makes it look as if there’s a join between the bowl and the stem.
A trick of the light I’m afraid— I’m sure all of you would have gathered that - but just in case.......... :)

There’s a labelled Ryd ( Aseptic on the side) with a similar colour ( ruby red ? ) which looks a bit like
mine, although it’s not a goblet and I can’t see the bottom of its base.

I did find a labelled Ryd online with a similar sort of base - but of course I can’t find it now -
it’s vanished ! :)

Normaly I think the RYD vases are white inside.
If it is Swedish I think more that Monica Bratt for Reijmyre is closer.
But I don't find this shape at all.
Maybe you have more luck...:)
It is her colors too.

I think I was mistaken when I said it might be Horbowy... I was looking at the Banas book on Horbowy, and though there is a goblet (made at INCO) which looks very much like yours, the rim isn't cut.

I had to run to the other room to find my fabby Horbowy to see how the bottom looks, exactly. My guts did the "Horbowy lurch" when I saw the goblet too, Anik. ;)

The base is marvered very flat, with a broken pontil mark which stands proud of the flat base, but the flat part has those same pinprick marks in it, as this goblet has.

Comparing the red of my vase in reality and the goblet image on the screen, they are not the same colour, the goblet is more orange, but the shading of the colour is consistent.

I don't know enough about Horbowy to say whether this goblet is his or not, though.
His work is not easy to find. I know. I'm searching for it, but cannot find what I'm looking for. ;D

Post by: Anik R on June 02, 2018, 06:02:22 PM: Funny thing about Horbowy ... there doesn't seem to be a uniform finish to the bases of his pieces. I've had pieces with a rough pontil mark (like in Sue's piece), with a flat base, with a flat polished base, or with a polished round indent. :)
