It appears to be a frosted green bowl but when washing it I realised the feet are clear glass. Looking more carefully the inside is polished as expected but the outside is not frosted but seems to be coated or painted (photo 1 shows sort of mottling / stippling) and is not smooth but slightly "rough".
OK I thought it's a clear glass bowl coated with something green with a uranium content to make it glow.
But that's not right either. The uncoated inside glows under UV and the coated outside doesn't. While the feet uncoated on either inside or outside show as black under UV and don't glow either on the inside or outside.
Does anyone know what the coating is, whether this is how it was made and what is glowing.

It's probably a sprayed on enamel finish, which would means it's post War rather than Auguste Walther. Whatever the glow is it's not uranium, as it too dull

Thankyou for the info. It's a pity they sprayed it, the green isn't very nice (perhaps it looked better when new). I might try to get it off with some paint stripper. It would look better as a clear glass bowl.

You may have trouble. A good quality sprayed on finish is fired on

I'm not sure how high a quality this would be. My photo is of the inside but the outside is equally dull and blotchy. If, as you say it's post war it looks to me like it might be soon after. When times were very hard and materials most likely scarce.
Being more used to seeing the high quality, pre-war Walther, I find it hard to think that something looking so "second rate" was ever very popular unless there was nothing better available. Perhaps I'll keep it as a curiosity -- I can't imagine that many others are still about!!

That's nationalised industry for you and anything coloured would have been acceptable immediately post War

I had a plate with a similar sprayed on finish which I soaked in warm water for a couple of hours and then went over it with one of the washing up sponges and the coating all came away, so I now have a much nicer clear plate! :)
