Title: history of this pattern? (rose and swallow)
Post by: kerstinfroberg on September 02, 2018, 04:39:43 PM
The "rose and swallow" pattern, usually transfer etched, was fairly common in Sweden around the 1900 mark. It was used for all kinds of glasses, carafes etc. I know of three "sure" glassworks using it: Boda, Kosta and Fåglavik (but it was probably in wider use).

I just met soeone who insisted on it being an "old traditional pattern from England".
Is this true, and is there anyone out there who can give some history?

PS: I have seen swallows flying both left and right, but the roses appear the same

 :)
I have never, ever seen this pattern/design before. I do not think it's an old English  traditional one. I am in the uk, but not England. If it was English, and traditional, I'm sure I'd have seen some.
I do look out for more unusual designs, with birds, insects or animals included in them.  :)
