Title: Double Cobalt Cut to Uranium Marmalade Preserve on EPNS Holder for show
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on September 09, 2018, 06:03:15 PM
A very nice cobalt blue cut to uranium double marmalade / jam preserve complete with its Elkington & Co silver plate holder.

The Elkington plate holder is marked for 1885.

The glass bowls each measure 4" in diameter.
Complete it weighs 920gm
Not sure who made the glass bowls but thought Stevens Williams possible.

ooh they are very pretty!

Have you looked in the CH book?

Also maybe VSL did that colourway?

Thanks m

I will check my CH book and see if anything similar.
I know VSL did very similar glass, will check out to see when they started marking that kind of glass. I know they were making it post 1900.

Thanks Roy

one more completely wild idea - the base reminds me of Webb Corbett paperweights and the shape, which was what first made WC come to mind, reminds me of my Webb Corbett agate flambe bowls.
So I'm adding that as one of those 'just in case it might be' thoughts.  However I have NO idea if they ever used double overlay cut through.

That said, as far as I know only S&W and VSL used uranium cut to colour - but then a little knowledge is limiting :)

VSL did this type of glass indeed, as mentioned before but I haven't found anything similar.

Unless it's a marriage, VSL did work with some silversmiths but not any English ones to my knowledge, just a couple of Belgian, German and the odd French one.

Thanks

100% not a marriage, the glass fits perfect as it sits on a silver plate base. Is it possible to find out when S&W started to make this sort of glass.
