Title: Isle of Wight small aurene shallow bowl.

Hi all.
Purchased this as a little sleeper online.
Is this an unusual shape and size.?
6” diameter with a 1”lip edge and a raised centre like an ice cream plate.Not flat.
Button pontil with flame mark.Lovely colours.

The shape is similar to Verdala bowls from Mdina, but these Aurene plates tend to be smaller.
Fairly scarce, a very good find. :)

Hi Chopin.
I thought that about the Verdala pieces as I was reading the recent posts on here and the images.
Never seen this shape or size before from IOWG so hence my question?
Was sold as Perthshire.

People often mistake the leaping salmon of Strathearn for the flame of Isle of Wight Studio, and if you don't know glass, you might think they could have come from a similar stable. Perthshire is related to Strathearn, obviously, so being unlike Strathearn, your seller must have assumed Perthshire.
It's no insult to either.  :)
Colours are introduced using powdered enamels on the surface worked and marvered in. And IoWSG did copy the swirls of splodges of colours the Ysarts did.
There is a warning on Frank's Scotland's Glass not to confuse these.

Has it got the comet-like streaks of silvery deposits on the outside surface?
I used to display mine upside-down. The bottom was more attractive than the inside.

Hi.
What the flame mark is there is a tool mark where the glass was cut that makes it look like a P so that’s where the confusion came about.
Nothing wrong with Perthshire glass at all.I love Monart glass and all the others in between in fact I would rather have a big lump of Monart over most glass although I am partial to the original output of Hartley wood too.
Just a lucky find which is why we trawl the inter web.
I will have a look at the comets and add some more images.Its really heavy too.

I've got something with a squished flame mark. It took somebody else's eagle eyes to make the flame out from what was left over. It didn't look like the coachbolt mark, it was flat, with squiggles in it. very confusing. ;D
