Title: Mystery Smoky Vase
Post by: pandk on October 04, 2018, 08:02:33 PM
Any ideas who designed made this smoky vase? Similar to a Riihimaki Stromboli. Polished rim and base. 31cm tall, 15cm diameter, 1.5kg.

The Riihimaki Stromboli design is similar to your vase, but not quite the same, and yours does not appear to be clear-cased either - though my eyes might be deceiving me. You might want to consider the German firm Schott (Zwiesel), though their designs in this period were usually clear-cased too.

That said, there is something about the quality of the glass, its colour, clarity and finish, that puts me in mind of Josef Schott at Smalandshyttan. He is better known for his thick-walled moulded vessels, but I have seen some plain examples in these mid-century shapes.

Thanks for your reply Helen. You are right it is not clear cased. I will investigate Schott (Zwiesel) and Smalandshyttan to see if I can find it.
