Title: Is this a Lace makers light aid?
Post by: Gibsonsy21 on November 12, 2018, 11:28:15 AM
Good morning
I have recently found an interesting piece of glass at auction where it was listed as an oil lamp light magnifier.
Of baluster shape around 14cms tall and weighing nearly 1 kg, it is solid clear glass with a smooth top and what appears to be a ground base.
I have not been able to find anything like it on line, but it does resemble a lace makers flask
Any advice would be much appreciated, regards Keith Mallows

Welcome to the board and thanks for posting your images directly here and enlargable. It is much appreciated.  :)
A lace-maker's light enhancer would certainly seem to be a reasonable assumption to make.
I don't know much about older glass, couldn't possibly give you any help with origins or a maker, but have you tried it out yet with a candle to see if it actually does magnify the light?

Morning, have tried with a candle and it certainly gives a glow that is not focused in any way regards Keith
