Title: Stretch Glass??
Post by: theElench on December 09, 2018, 06:02:16 PM
I've been trying to I.D a plain yellow / green bowl I have and think it's by Fenton.  Rather like Davidson with an incurved rim but more like Vaseline glass with an iridescent (pink and green) finish.

Trying to dig a bit deeper, I keep coming across the term "Stretch Glass", mainly from the US where it seems to be used to describe some types of Carnival Glass.  On ebay there are items for sale on the American site identified as "Fenton Stretch Glass", some plain, others the highly decorated Carnival Glass I'm familiar with (but not a great fan of).

I've looked through previous threads here, but am no further forward.

Could anyone please clarify what "Stretch Glass" is?

Thanks.

Thank-you so much for your speedy reply.

I can now definitely say my bowl isn't Stretch Glass as it doesn't have any striations, it's smooth, although a bit blotchy in places.

Having read a bit more, I'm now not so sure it's Fenton.  One article I found was saying that this shape was also made by Northwood Glass and the two are easily confused.  This late in the day I'm quite easily confused so will leave looking at and measuring shoulder widths and curvatures for another day.

If anyone has further suggestions or comments they would be most welcome.

I'll move your post into Glass where it will catch other eyes and we'll see if someone can help you pin it down.

Does it have a pontil mark and is it lead crystal?

No, it doesn't have a pontil mark and I'm pretty sure it's pressed glass, not lead crystal.  There are remains of mould seams in the groove just above the base rim, it's quite thin and only weighs just over 700g.

Some more measurements if they are any help.
Maximum dia.   8.25 inches.
Rim dia.   Slightly over 7.0 inches.
Height.   Varies between 3. 25 to 3.5 inches as it has slumped slightly to one side.

I've added pictures to show the base and the shoulder.  The width and shape of which seems to be important in deciding who made which bowls.  You can just see the remains of a seam on the first picture.
