Title: Vase/Bowl Signed Schneider
Post by: kardinalisimo on December 16, 2018, 04:19:02 PM
Wonder if this has something to do with Charles Schneider?
Can’t find an exact match of the signature. Also, there is a rough pontil. Is that seen on Charles Schneider pieces?

Hello,

Difficult to say for several reasons, the main one is that we're judging from images but let's say that it is and imagine the piece is unsigned.

In this case I would suggest it is unfinished as it is missing its foot. Often these were added in different parts and in different colours. Perhaps it didn't meet certain standards and it was decided not to continue with this one. A piece with un unfinished  pontil is unlikely to have been released as a 'finished product'. Often they were very shiny or satin finish and here we've got something in the middle, but I'll leave that aside for now.

The signature is, for me, a bit fresh and a bit hesitant and tries to pass for the real thing, and has been added much later. One thing that is sure, we can never judge a piece, no matter what it is, on its signature.

So, for now, you have two possibilities :
1 It is an unfinished piece.
2 It isn't Schneider.

How big is it please?

Recently found a couple of American glass makers called Schneider while attempting to research a signed goblet.

J Schneider: https://www.jschneiderstudio.com/glass

and Donald Schneider: http://www.theglassworksonline.com/about_the_artist.html
