This weight does not fit comfortably into the category of Chinese White for me so wondering if anyone has any ideas, perhaps a more recent variation?
It is 6.5cm in diameter, flat polished base with little wear to speak of. The white disc is hand painted on the upper surface but it is not flat like the discs in Chinese Whites I have handled, it is much thinner, more concave and set far higher in the dome. The dome itself is higher and the blue used to outline the painted shape looks different.
It looks to me like it depicts a Bactrian Camel, native to the Gobi desert straddling the north of China and the south of Mongolia.

Hi John,
This is not Chinese. The "whites" made in China tend to me more crude with a lower dome shape. I am not certain where this was made but it resembles some plaque style weights which are believed to originate in Portugal.

Thanks Eric, found half a dozen of those Portuguese weights on ebay and see what you mean, nothing yet painted like this though.

I have a broadly similar one (same shape and style) with a chicken and other detail painted on it. I agree, not Chinese. Portuguese may well be the correct ID.

Thanks Alan, any chance of a photo?

Here are a couple of quick images. Flat polished base. It looks like it is from the same maker as the camel.

Fantastic thanks, yours has blue used as the outline colour too. Time will tell, hopefully!
