Title: One vase and bowl would love help
Post by: RobKennedy on December 30, 2018, 12:07:25 AM
Hi all,

I inherited these two glass objects from my Dad's estate and I'm trying to find out a bit more about them now.  They've both been in the family for as long as I can remember.

The first is a Leerdam glass vase.  I would have photographed the bottom but the engraving is so fine I couldn't get it to stick out with either shoe polish or smoke.  The engraving says: Leerdam Unila and AD Copier.  The maker's mark is presumably in the middle and says O 95.  There may be a small "," after the circle or O.

The second is a vase (I think), and has absolutely no markings on it.

Any assistance rendered would be fantastic and I thank you in advance.  I still have to go back to my dad's place and pick some more up so standby for more.

Cheers

Rob,

Can't comment on the second, but the first will be Leerdam Unica. O is year date for early 1930's and each is uniquely numbered, hence the 95. These are not cheap ! You will find a lot online for Leerdam Copier Unica if you search. It would be nice to see some other pics if possible ?

Hi Rob, and welcome to the board.

Please would you post each item as separate topics rather than combine them. See here for why: https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,28213.0.html

Thanks!

Hi Gareth, Anne,

Anne sorry for the infringement.

Gareth, thanks for the information.  I've got two more photos one is darker than the other and gives a bit more depth perhaps.  The true beauty of this work is the swirling patterns deep inside the glass.  Mum and Dad must have been fans because there are more pieces of glass and stemware that looks as though it could be Leerdam.  One more question is does this mean that AD Copier made the piece? and did he make 95 similar pieces or was this the 95th piece for the year?  Whilst I'm curious as to the value, it's curiosity only, these two pieces have always been a part of my life which makes sense if they were made circa 1930s.

Cheers
Rob

AD Copier was the designer, and possibly also blew them (someone more knowledgeable than I will correct me if I'm wrong). An important person in art glass. 95th bit that year.

This site might help you understand a bit more re his pieces, but being unique pieces it's all down to whether it will appeal to a collector, but yours looks looks nice and displayable.

Thanks Gareth, Wow the prices are beyond what I expected. I'm not all that comfortable now having a vase/s like that sitting where they are when the grand children visit.

I'm confident that the there are several more pieces from Leerdam, bowls and vases.  The deer lying down I also have but there might be up to eight different sets of stemware as well.  My Mum and Dad moved from the Netherlands after the war.  He went from Amstelveen to Scotland, then to India and then to New Zealand before settling in Australia.

Thanks
Rob

Your bowl is from Murano but I do not know which maker. Not in the same league as the Leerdam sadly, more of an 'everyday' piece.
