Title: Chinese bowl?
Post by: bat20 on January 28, 2019, 03:42:47 PM
This is possibly Chinese, but you got to admit it's ok and you get a lot of glass for your money!16cm ht and heavy with small suspended bubbles what's not to like.Should be a great plant pot holder with the right plant.

:) I think you are 100% correct on all counts.
For cheap and cheerful, it's absolutely wonderful and I have just the right plants to put in it...
It is a bit squint, but it has an applied rim. Where it goes wrong in some bits is more than made up for in other bits where it went really well.

Having had a good look around I'm guessing the influence for this piece would be Gunner Cyren, which would have been fully signed.

Looking at one particular piece in Gunnar Cyren's salamander range and how some of the rims are applied I thought I might post a few more pictures, plus receiving a polite email from a Scandinavian glass collector asking me if I sell on eBay in relation to another piece I had posted recently,........forgive my paranoia if this is a Chinese copy.

I'm starting to think this piece could be a second and possibly sold from the factory with green label, now missing...Possible?

No. It is modern and Chinese in origin, it has all the right characteristics, bright colours, thick and heavy and not the best workmanship. I have seen several in recent years, wishful thinking does not make it something it is not.

It's a learning curve and what a lot of us are on here for, after all it's a glass forum all about discussion with more information often coming from wrong attributions than correct ones, people shouldn't be scared to be wrong. In this case I thought the applied rim was very similar, with the flat rim showing through here and there very like the real ones and the colours being pretty close to one of GN's salamander range I posted, plus they seem purposefully loosely made.
