Title: Maybe An Early Mdina Studio Glass Vase - ID = Mdina Inside Out vase
Post by: LEGSY on January 31, 2019, 01:55:04 PM
Purchased this piece recently as it just felt right although i cant remember seeing a similar one in the past?? It's a diddy one at 4" but heavy just under a kilo..
What made me think Mdina was the ochre color but also the shape reminds me of some Mdina/IOW pieces something in between maybe a practice piece.
Any idea's welcome thank you..

Yes a Mdina Inside Out vase, very nice in that colour combo.

Proper early.  ;D
Polished round pontil mark and, I suspect, cobalt blue.

I guess there is no records of what amounts and design's were produced in the early days of production
Would have been all hand's to the pumps so to speak but it does make you wonder the amount's if early pieces
like this which are getting on for 50 years old are still turning up on the market then again they are well made
maybe will never know  8)

To the best of our current knowledge, only one pot of cobalt blue ever got melted and used and it was while Michael Harris was still there.
I don't know how many pieces had just little bits added in, or large amounts for thick use.
But we must be coming close to having found just about all of it.  8) ;D
But as it is unmarked and not catalogued in any way, it does depend a lot on folk having hunches and recognising the quality to get them dug out of their obscurity.
