Title: Czech ? triangular faceted cased vase
Post by: Sheilaglass on February 15, 2019, 05:47:57 PM
Hi
Please can anyone help me identify this vase? I think it is Czech / Bohemian, dating to the 1970s or thereabouts.
I bought it from an antique shop in the UK about 6 years ago but the owner had no information about it.
It measures 30 cm high x 14.5 cm on all 3 sides at the top x 12.5 cm wide on all 3 sides at the base.
The deep red glass is cased in clear glass which has oval-shaped facets cut into it. There are also slim oval facets cut into the sides. The base is unsigned, completely flat.
I’d be grateful for any help.
Best wishes
Sheila

Hello Sheila,

What an interesting piece.  Are the facets definitely cut - crisp sharp edges, or could they be moulded?  A photo of the base may be helpful, even when it isn't marked.  I have been amazed how much other members can tell from a slight bevel on an edge!

Some Sklo Union moulded pieces can look like hand cut crystal, but I haven't seen anything with such a free form looking top as yours.  Round facets appear on Borske Sklo pieces, and they have some more free form looking shapes.  Anyway, will wait to hear back.

It'll probably turn out to be murano 😹

Perhaps Kamei, Japan?
Their tops can look like that.

Hi
Many thanks for replying to my post and the suggestions - and profuse apologies for the delay in replying but due to ill health and a holiday away to recover, I have had a break from the computer.

in the meantime, we found the same vase in green, bought it and sold the red one as it had a shallow chip to the base.
The facets are moulded  - very crisply - and not cut - sorry for the confusion.

Hopefully this information and the new colour will spark a memory in someone.
I'll post photos of the base etc when I've managed to convert the photos to the right size, as it rejected them as usual.
Thanks very much for your kind interest.
Best wishes
Sheila
