Title: Rough textured vase ID please.
Post by: createdbear on March 01, 2019, 03:21:14 PM
Hello,
I'm new to this site and wondered if anyone could identify the maker of a vase I have acquired. It has a rough, stippled exterior and the base has the same finish as the rest of the vase, ie, it is not polished. The top is flat and polished. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hello and welcome. :)
I've got a vase/goblet just like this and I'm absolutely clueless too. There is an iridescence to it, and I can tell it is moulded from the concentric rings on the slightly concave base. The enamels on the surface are mostly green, but there are dark brown/black bits too.
The rim is polished flat, but has some untidy patches where the vessel itself wasn't quite tall enough.

It is a strange combination of being quite nice but not really top quality.

I only found it within the last couple of years. I have never seen anything like it before. It might be newish. With the textured surfacecovering the base, it is impossible to tell if there is any age-related wear to it.

Thank you Sue for replying to me.
There were originally 2 of them but the other, same texture and colour but a different shape, got broke a few years ago. Mine also has those little brown specks in it.

Does yours have a sort of slightly flared foot with a narrower "waist" above it?
I don't currently have any photos of mine. I think it's a vase, it would be awkward to drink from the thick rim.

The other one had a flared foot...I can remember it well. Definitely a vase.

I suspect we might be looking at Romania, Lithuania or Hungary as a geographical origin.
It doesn't fit with anything from anywhere else that I can think of.
It's not Polish, they wouldn't leave bits of the rim undulating down and unpolished. It's not contemporary Chinese either.
