Came today, 10cm tall with RBy art glass label and etched RBy to the base, the colour is the same as the bud vase, which is RBy Studio and the exact dimensions as the 'spotty' RBy Studio bowl so... art glass or studio ? ::) ;D ;D

It looks moulded and "perfect". I'd go for Art glass rather than Studio. I expect Studio to have some evidence of imperfections, from being unique hand-made items, rather than a specific range of identical pieces produced.

But the RBy studio range are moulded that's the problem so I'm stumped, I have a known piece of RBy studio that is just etched RBy, some aren't marked at all and some have the art glass label on pieces etched RBy Studio, I do wish these people would mark their glass properly ! ;D ;D ;D

The coloured blobs are what make the difference. 8)
They are unique, not the moulded bit.
Like the Mdina moulded pots and textured bottles - the top parts are all hand finished and not to the same design specifications, so each piece is still unique.
(Quite apart from the colours.)
(Edited to add. Perhaps the folk sticking labels on were not quite as determined as I am to make a clear distinction between the two. ;D )

Sorry Sue, with you now, those 'blob' vases, my name not theirs, are an exception most are like this vase very uniform ::)

But the blobs themselves are not identical between pieces. They're the bits that are unique and added, by hand, to each.
So they're proper Studio. No (unique) blobs and they're Art Glass.
I do not consider cold finishing to indicate Studio, it has to be hot work. :)

With you on on studio work but RBy studio was mass produced with minimum hand finished, most came out of moulds straight into the shop, these blobby vases and bowls are an exception, sometimes I wish I I had kept to collecting stamps it was easier ::) :o ;D ;D ;D

I was forgetting that RB's main aim in their Studio stuff was to emulate Studio Glass en masse - which was why they got Tim Harris et. al to design stuff that could be!
So for the particular case of RB, perhaps the dividing line cannot be clearly drawn. :)

That's why Michael and Tim had nothing further to do with the production after they made the prototype. RBy approached Richard Golding in the late 70s but he turned them down.

Perhaps then, "Royal Brierley Studio Glass" should be looked on as a brand.
Something quite different to Studio Glass.
words, eh? Designed specifically to deceive. ;D
